On January 24, the Louisville Visual Art Association
opened its new exhibition space at 131 West Main Street. Named
"PUBLIC," this gallery will be open to the public free of charge and offer rotating exhibitions throughout the year. The
adoption of this new space is a necessity after moving out of the Louisville
Water Tower last October, but according to Shannon Westerman, LVAA Executive
Director, the use of new locations is also an opportunity: "With the
expansion of LVAA education and exhibit programs at different locations in the
community and online through Artebella, we are able to offer a broader
continuum of conveniently located service points for the thousands of youth and
adults that LVAA serves each year."
The first exhibition in the new
space is titled "Public @ PUBLIC," which runs through Saturday, March 2, 2013. It features fifteen local artists,
some working in pairs, each of whom were given a light box and asked to create
a piece of original work on the theme "public."
Participating artists include
David Schuster, McKinley Moore, Russel Hulsey, Susanna Crum & Rodolfo
Salgado, Jr., StudioWorks by Zoom Group, Carrie Burr, Natalie Biesel & Todd
Smith, Thaniel Ion Lee, Bryce Hudson, Alli Wiles, Ted Nathanson, Joen
Pallesen, and Joshua Jenkins.
